Planning a funeral for the death of a loved one is never easy. When my brother-in-law passed unexpectedly, I volunteered to make calls to find a funeral home in Hamilton, Ohio. I figured, making these calls could take some of the weight off my husband’s family. Little did I know how much goes into funeral planning. I have attended, and read eulogies at more funerals than I care to admit, but this was the first time I was deeply involved with the planning phase and boy! Was it a bit overwhelming!

We were given a list of funeral homes from the social worker at the hospital, and I wanted to start there. My mother-in-law had picked out three from that list so I decided to start with those. After making many calls, we thought we had decided on one because the price was the lowest of all of them, and the packages included everything we needed. Thinking I had the funeral home checked off my list, I started calling around to the local cemeteries to get pricing. One of the last cemeteries I called had a pleasant and welcoming voice on the other end. One that was trustworthy, and genuinely wanted the best for our family. I basically decided after this call, Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton, OH would be the one we would use. 

Because the voice on the other end was so genuine, I asked if there were any funeral homes he recommended, since I still didn’t feel 100% positive about our first choice. I called over there, and again, I was greeted with a genuine and calm voice on the other end of the phone. After gathering pricing, which was beyond reasonable for what they offered, we decided to book a time to meet and make the final arrangements. 

Upon arrival, we were greeted by Toni, the Office Manager who was welcoming and made us feel at ease right away. She took us in to meet Donald, the owner, who would also be helping us with the arrangements. Donald is such a gentle, loving, caring person who really wants to make this not so easy process, as seamless as possible. Donald took the time to walk us through all the options, answered our questions and was patient with us as we were talking through the decision as a family. We never felt pressure, nor did we feel like we were just another business transaction to him or any of the staff. We actually felt like we were part of their family, and I’m telling you, that makes all the difference in the world in this situation. 

After making the final arrangements, they were great about communicating what they needed from us and what we could expect with their services, and they delivered above and beyond. The day of the funeral is clearly not an easy day, but Donald Jordan Memorial Chapel made sure everything was taken care of and made sure our family had everything we needed. 

To top it all off, we were presented with an extra special gift at the cemetery from one of the Donald Jordan employees!

Each staff member went above and beyond to make sure we could honor and celebrate the life of my brother-in-law in the best way possible.
