Where would you find the best wings in Cincinnati?! One thing my husband really enjoys… probably too much, is smoked wings! We have tried wings from multiple places, not only locally, but also in places outside the Tri-State area. We have explored on our own, but have also taken recommendations from other people. Personally, I enjoy a juicy, jumbo, dry rubbed, smoked wing. Those are the exact wings you’ll find when you visit Knockback Nats!
I heard about Knockback Nats multiple times, but never made my way there. Everyone kept saying how great the wings were, but a hole in the wall bar is just not our scene. Truthfully, downtown is not always our favorite place to go to grab a bite. There are so many hoops to jump through, such as traffic, parking and annoying one way streets!
One day, someone had ordered a cheesecake from me and asked if I could drop it off to them downtown. Since we were already down there, my husband and I decided to grab wings from Knockback. We ordered them with the sauce on the side because like I said, we prefer dry rub and then the option to dip if we want.
One of our orders came with the sauce on them, so my husband bit the bullet and ate those because there was way too much on there for me. Even he said it was too much, and he likes sauce a lot more than me! If you are not a sauce person, or prefer a mild amount, make sure you request it on the side, or without sauce completely! The sauce does have a good flavor, but you can get away without it!
When we opened the boxes, we were impressed with the size and appearance of the wings, they were jumbo like we wanted, and looked like a nice rub on them. I took the first bite, and looked at my husband with “the eyes”. The eyes that, without words, speak “This is where it’s at! These are the best wings in Cincinnati!” They were delicious. The flavor was amazing, and they were juicy just like I wanted! We were hooked immediately and wish Knockback was closer to us.
Another opportunity to experience Knockback came around more recently, and we actually had a chance to eat there this time. We were downtown with family at a museum. We weren’t necessarily planning on eating after, but I got a craving for wings and thought “Shoot, if we’re this close, let’s grab some Knockback!” Everyone agreed and off we went! I wanted to get carry out again, but it was chilly outside, so there really wasn’t a convenient place to go to enjoy our food. We ended up eating in, and for a hole in the wall bar, it wasn’t a bad experience at all.
This was about 4:30pm on a Saturday and there were plenty of people in there, but we were able to get seated right away. The experience inside was better than I thought! As soon as we sat down, we were served a big bowl of popcorn! Be mindful how quick you munch down the popcorn, you don’t want to ruin your appetite! The service was great, and our wings came out extremely quick. My family also got fries and said they were delicious as well.
If you haven’t had Knockback Nats yet, I suggest giving them a shot ASAP! I truly believe they’re some of the best wings in Cincinnati! If you have a big group, or younger kids, you may want to consider take out, especially if you are going in the evenings when the bar gets more crowded. I have to say, so far, these are all around my favorite smoked wings in the city when it comes to size, flavor, price, and quality!
